Our top tips for a winter wonderland garden
So, it might be cold, wet and grey, but there’s so much more to your garden than gardening jobs this winter. It is a wonderful time of year to enjoy your garden. Not convinced? Here are our top suggestions to get the most out of your outdoor space this winter.
Dreamy lighting and lanterns
Make the most of the long nights and mornings by investing in some garden lighting. There’s something quite magical about little lanterns and strings of light around the garden in wintertime. Enjoy subtle sparkles of light down your garden path or high up in the treetops. Candlelit patios for a romantic, whimsical feel. Simple pleasures each day to enjoy.
While most of your garden may be looking a little sparse or dreary, you can bring it to life with some beautiful pots of pansies, forget-me-nots, cyclamens and violas. Invest in some colourful winter blooms to spark joy and lift your spirits on the greyest of days.
To continue to enjoy one of nature’s great pleasures – the bird song. Keep your feathered friends happy and chirruping from your treetops by ensuring they’re well fed and watered throughout the winter months. Watch from the warmth of your home or throw on your coat, grab a blanket and enjoy a hot cuppa/toddy in the garden and enjoy the grateful tweeting.
Feed the soul
Simply getting outside and breathing in some fresh air can do wonders for your mind, body and soul. If you’ve got shelter – bonus! If not, pile on the layers or grab the waterproofs and enjoy a meander or a sit in your garden (get the brolly out if you must!). Feel the cold? Outdoor heaters and fire pits are a great addition to any patio or seating area. You can enjoy your outdoor room (garden) all year long, whatever the weather. Bliss.
We have blast off!
Fireworks are a great way to enjoy your garden and a great excuse to have a winter gathering with loved ones. Guy Fawkes, New Year’s Eve or any celebration that needs a bang! Fireworks bring a touch of magic to any garden. Light the fire pit for some marshmallows on a stick and some feel-good sing-alongs. Go the whole hog and dust off the bbq and enjoy some winter hot dogs with friends.
Jump in the tub
There’s nothing quite like a relaxing soak beneath the stars. Hot tubs can be a great way to enjoy the great outdoors all year long. They’re heavenly in the winter, especially with some candles and delicate lighting to set the scene. Enjoy the bubbles for some relaxation, and when the bubbles finish, enjoy the silence and tranquillity of the nights sky. Just be sure to have your robe close by to avoid a chilly run to the house when you’re done.
Snow much fun
Snow. Need we say more? No matter what your age, snow is a glorious treat! Throw on your winter woollies, grab a carrot and a spare scarf and build a snowman. It’s nostalgic, fun and a great way to entertain the neighbours. Oh, and did we mention snow angels? Best to do this last – you’ll get those woolly hats wet, but there’s nothing quite like lying in the snow and feeling the snowflakes hit your face as they flutter down from the sky.
