James and Matt first crossed paths whilst attending Morton Morrell Horticultural College in Warwickshire, after both being selected to represent the College in the 2006 UK Landscape Skills Competition. It was here that they found their unique inspirational style of working together and were selected by the college to build Mike Roberts roof top garden design at Chelsea 2006.

Realising their own potential and what they could achieve together, James and Matt founded Isola Garden Design, a business of which they are both proud to be a part.

James - Managing Partner

"The garden was always a place I loved to be when I was growing up. My Grandma was a keen gardener, winning numerous prizes for her displays of summer bedding and my grandfather a dedicated vegetable grower, always in the garden digging over his vegetable plot. I suppose this is where I found my early enthusiasm for what I do now. Having spent most of my life involved in music and graduating from Music College, I had a creative theatrical flare and what better than to combine both my artistic side with my interest in gardens. So I chose to go back to college, this time to Moreton Morrell Horticultural College, where I studied garden and landscape design. This is where I met Matt and where Isola was born.

Matt - Partner & Head of Landscaping

"From a young age I always had a passion and talent for anything practical, whether it be drawing or building something useful. Having achieved high grades and various awards in art and combining these skills with my natural building ability, I found myself being drawn towards a career in garden and landscape design. Attending college I soon found my strengths in landscaping and was privileged enough to be given a placement with Scenic Blue Staffordshire, a leading garden and landscape design company in the UK. It was here that I learnt many of the core skills that I use daily to help implement the work I carry out and pass these on to many of my fellow workers.

Working alongside James and as a part of the Isola team, has enabled me to live my dream and to create unique garden styles that I never thought were possible."
